Hockey, Love, & GUTS! – Chapter 5 Release!

After nearly a year since the release of the last chapter, here it is, Chapter 5! I keep saying this at every chapter release, but I’m gonna say it again: I really wish I could just work on this all the time and release chapters more frequently. But, as an animation artist (and a freelancer at that) I guess doing a chapter a year is as much as I can muster with the very little free time I have each day. But, who knows, maybe one day I’ll still be able to make this comic be my full time job (or maybe take the story and characters to different media…)

Either way, for now, enjoy it here for free while it’s available. I’m already at work on chapter 6, and I’m hoping it won’t be another year until that one comes out, so maybe I’ll go back to making shorter chapters or I’ll just get better and faster at doing this (at least the Cintiq really makes a difference so far.)

Let me know what you think by dropping a comment or two! 😉

One of these days I’ll finish chapter 5 of my comic “Hockey, Love, & GUTS!” and post it here. “These days” will come very soon. But, until then, please enjoy this little character illustration.

Google+BUCK

I just uploaded some storyboards I did for BUCK for a recent Google+ campaign. I think BUCK did some really cool work from concept to execution, albeit brief in the final spots. Thanks again for the team at BUCK for letting me be a part of one of their productions once again. I had a lot of fun drawing these little circles!

Roller Derby Roughs

Rough indeed they are. Thanks to my friend Keren Albala, I became aware of the world of roller derby when I attended a match a few months ago. It was a completely different atmosphere than I had expected; I saw kids, parents, and grandparents cheering together for their favorite girls on the ring, as if it was as mundane as going to the park for a picnic. And, yet, there was nothing mundane about the roller derby girls.

They are really incredible athletes, who not only know how to compete with each other, but also know how to perform and put on a show; so ultimately, it’s just a really fun experience for everyone. I want to go to more meets in the near future, so hopefully I’ll get to sketch some more (and even make another category here in the blog just for it.) Enjoy.

Back on Track? Well…

So, no new storyboard this week, but a post nonetheless. My new goal is to start updating weekly, even if all I have is one image or illustration. But, as the title of the post says I’m back on track, and that is at least for my comic, which I’m really glad to come back to after so long. The fact is I had all of chapter 5 pretty much roughed and ready for cleanup and tone for months, but I got some gigs that took a lot of my time (which were great!), and I also had to do some portfolio work on the storyboard side of things (gotta keep things fresh with that too.) So what you see on this post are a couple of frames from chapter 5 (no spoilers, as far as I can tell.)
