Here’s a short reminder that I’ll be putting new comic pages on Fridays. Chapter 8 just started, but if you’re new to the comic, start here – https://studio-catch.com/comic/hlg-v-ch01-v01-p01-v5/ – don’t worry, it’s a quick read 😉 Enjoy!
A little late, but I’m still within New Year’s Day weekend, so I’m good, right? Maybe the illustration reflects this, but this year, I’ll try to be more like my kids: carefree and full of naiveté and wonder. Also, I’m going to try and pretend to be a webcomic author by posting one page per week of the latest chapter of my webcomic. I’ve spent all of 2015 (and some of 2014) working on it, and I can’t wait to share it with ya’ll. It’s been 7 years since I started working on it, so I guess it’s time to try releasing it more regularly after all. Who knows what will happen then?!
Happy New Year Everybody!
Enjoy!
Yes, I’ve thought about this for a long time, but I think it’s time to start adapting my comic story to animation. I’ve done a few color pieces in the past, but nothing particularly with animation in mind, so I consider these a first step in that process. I know I could have come up with better poses for the main character illustrations (instead of just coloring some designs that I’ve made in grayscale in the past) but due to my current time constraints, and because I just wanted to focus on color, I just went ahead and used poses that I’ve done before. But, somehow, with new color, they feel new to me too 😉 . So, who knows, maybe someone will bite and then I’ll have to take this down, but that’ll be a good day for everyone (I hope.) WIN-WIN!
Enjoy!
Another site update, just weeks since the last?! Yeah, sometimes it just works out that way. Making these character profiles for my comic has been a long term project, that really just help me stay on target (and ideally on model, but it’s still hard to put in practice) and help me keep track of each character’s overall personality and role in the story. This combined with the previous post makes up all the characters that I’ve given speaking roles so far (though there are more in upcoming chapters) – of course I’ve drawn background characters here and there, which may or may not have actual dialogue, but these are definitely the supporting characters of the story.
As a little update regarding publishing, Oni Press didn’t accept my pitch for this, but I’m still looking at other potential publishers to take this on. But, as it stands now, I’ll continue on cleaning up and toning the next chapter, hopefully trying to release it by the end of the year. Here’s to more “Hockey, Love, & GUTS!”
So, it’s been a long, long, long time since the last update, if you can even really call it that. Blah blah blah career, blah blah blah family, blah blah blah art… Highs, lows, really lows, then plateaus… the last 6-8 months have really felt like years. Sleep deprivation, a second child in the mix, acid reflux in the mix, toxing, detoxing, retoxing, faux veganism… I don’t know what else. Just look at this, I can’t even write a proper blog post. But, alas, I did submit my comic to a publisher (OniPress), and putting a pitch package together was a small victory. Below are some character designs and descriptions that didn’t make it into the package since they asked for submissions without them. While the next chapter is all roughed out, I might wait another month to see what happens with the submission; if it gets picked up then great, but if not, I’ll continue to draw it and post it here, or maybe I’ll try some of the other webcomic aggregators, or maybe I’ll dedicate a tumblr to it. Until then, I’ll try and do more illustrations like the ones below (there’s more characters in the backlog), or maybe post more experiments with color and design like I’ve done in the past. I would post the whole package here, but it outlines the whole story, and you wouldn’t want to know the end before reading it all now would you? (Besides, the character descriptions already have a few spoilers, so you’ve been warned.)
tl;dr – I’m alive, still struggling with mundane quasi middle class artist things, but still moving forward. Ya dig?
