So, no new storyboard this week, but a post nonetheless. My new goal is to start updating weekly, even if all I have is one image or illustration. But, as the title of the post says I’m back on track, and that is at least for my comic, which I’m really glad to come back to after so long. The fact is I had all of chapter 5 pretty much roughed and ready for cleanup and tone for months, but I got some gigs that took a lot of my time (which were great!), and I also had to do some portfolio work on the storyboard side of things (gotta keep things fresh with that too.) So what you see on this post are a couple of frames from chapter 5 (no spoilers, as far as I can tell.)
Absurdist stories about the life of a star in Hollywood. In this episode, Hollywood Star goes to the dog park.

Oh, did I mention I got a dog?
Yeah, I did, and it’s probably the one constant wish I’ve had since I was a child. I’ve always wanted a dog, and could never have it for a variety of factors. But, now I do, and it’s great. Just great?! No, it’s FANTASTIC! She’s been everything I wished for and more. I’ve been losing weight from walking her, and feeling a lot more relaxed when she’s around… well, it was a bit stressful on the first week with her, but to be fair, I was working a lot. Barely saw my wife during that time, and all of a sudden we get a dog a little by surprise. Not that we weren’t looking, but we just didn’t expect to adopt her on the day we met her. And yet, my wife Donna and I just totally fell in love with her the minute we saw her.
It’s been a little over 2 months since we adopted her, and it feels like a lifetime already. Kit is almost 2 years old, though she behaves like a puppy. She’s so full of energy, but is also really calm at home, and rarely barks or makes a fuss. Of course, it took a while to decide to get a dog, and a little longer to find the right breed and dog for us. Luckily, my friend Shervin introduced me to the breed and after some research, Donna and I realized that was the perfect breed for us (not to mention the fact that we already saw a few in Japan during our trip back in October).
Of course, I have to thank Michelle at the Southern California Shiba Inu Rescue for helping us find the perfect shiba for us. She was a great mediator between us and owners and shelters and she made our job so much easier. Thanks Michelle!
Much like the early buds that begin to bloom before spring, Kit is our little winter blossom.

Last December I attended the Scott McCloud Theory and Practice 2-Day Workshop at LAAFA, and after 2 days of lectures and exercises, Scott asked us to pick a random word from a hat and make a story about it in 90 minutes. The word was CANOE, and that is all I was given. It was a really good exercise and it made me realize that I should do more short stories more often, really quick and dirty, just to see what comes out. Of course, this is a VERY revised version of the original, but the paneling and the dialog are virtually the same as the one I presented. But, seeing as I only had 5 pages, I decided to try some color for a change, and this is what I came up with. Enjoy! Ré.
Not much to say yet about these characters, except that a new one-shot comic story is coming very soon. Trust me, it’s short, and I’m almost done with the pages. Just wanted to give you a taste, that’s all. Enjoy!
